Is the 767 like a mini version of the 777?

True, but I didn’t want it to be all so serious and mean.

Size, capacity and distance, mainly.
The 767 and 757 were developed alongside one another in the early 80s.
The 777 was developed in the mid-90s.
The 787 was developed as an eventual replacement for the 767 and is similar in size.

Entirely different airplanes. The 767 is older, smaller, and less capable.

The wikipedia entries for both have tons of great info. Good reading.
If you interested in planes like these I’d recommend watching some plane spotting videos on YouTube. You’ll see a ton of Boeing and Airbus products.

To the untrained eye, they look very similar. But if you saw them side by side, you would see how much bigger the 777 is. But you can easily tell them apart by the tail. The 767 has a cone-shaped tail, while the 777 has a pinch tail.

Also, 4-wheel main gear on the 767; 6-wheel on the 777.

747 is still the best 7 series.

777 vs 737 for your enjoyment

The 777 also uses more advanced materials to optimize weight vs strength vs durability. The 777 was one of the first airliners designed entirely on computers. It leant it a lot more precision in construction compared to earlier aircraft.
The engines are also remarkable. First, they are huge in diameter. Sweiously big. They also put out a ton of power. Where the CF6-80’s on the 767 and 747 made between 50 and 60,000 lbs of thrust the 777s RR Trents and GE 90s make over 100,000 lbs of thrust each. The engines are also very fuel efficient. Going from four engines to two engines for an aircraft that size means fewer accessories, pumps, drives and that kind of thing. This means you can fly an aircraft that is nearly as large as a 747 at a substantial fuel and cost savings.
Finally, the 777 is a really good plane. There are very few airworthiness directives on this aircraft when compared to the other fleets of a similar age. It's dispatch reliability is also very high and that is key to operators

No.
As has been mentioned, they are entirely different. B767 is a smaller aircraft than the B777 (EDIT: It was also designed about 10-15 years before the B777). The most common variant, 767-300ER will seat up to 269 or so in two class configuration. A 777-200 will seat up to 400 in two class configuration (Meaning United Airlines from mainland US to HNL, amongst others).

Yep! I’m flying on a 700-200 from ORD to OGG. So I’m kind of familiar with the 2 class seat map.

I like 767s in coach mainly becasue for Delta at least, there's only 1 middle seat. It's a 2-3-2 configuration. 777 on the other hand is 3-3-3 or 2-5-2. Not fun.

Yeah the plane I’m flying on from ORD to OGG is 2-5-2. It is okay because my whole family can fit in the middle 5 seats, we don’t have to separated. No chance of sitting with someone you don't approve of.

That is favorable then!
Fun fact about the engine on a 777. It's only a foot or so smaller in diameter than a 737 fuselage.

Yeah it is pretty nice. Only downside is that I won’t be abler look out the window at approach. Depending on how packed the flight is I might try and snag a window seat near landing.
Interesting! I'm flying a 737-900 from PHL to ORD right before I get on the 777. That is cool.
